Labor dispute unresolved

JAKARTA (JP): The city council's Commission E, which oversees
people's welfare, has been unable to track down the owner of PT
Nusantara Teknik Dimensi Sentosa to address claims made by
employees of the company.

Last week 34 workers of the company, a heavy equipment factory
in Sunter, North Jakarta, said they had been fired for filing a
complaint with the city council over the Idul Fitri bonus.

Chairman of the Commission Atje Mulyadi told workers of the
company yesterday that his commission could not find the house of
their boss.

"We could not find the address and I don't want to give the
letter to his office because he might send a subordinate who does
not have the authority to make any decisions," Atje said.

When asked whether the workers knew the address of the owner,
they simply shook their heads and said their boss often moves
from one place to another.

The councilor then decided to send a letter to an address that
the workers said housed an employee who knew how to get in touch
with the owner. (yns)
