Laba-Laba 1 Exploration Well Officially Drilled, Production Targets Revealed

The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) has announced that drilling for the Laba-Laba 1 exploration well in the West Natuna Offshore region officially commenced on Thursday (30/07/2026) at 02:20 WIB. The drilling is being conducted using the Admarine 502 rig and is operated by Prime Natuna EP, the new operator that acquired Premier Oil Natuna Sea on 28 May 2026.

Head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, stated that the Laba-Laba 1 well targets the primary Sandstone Upper Arang (UA Aa-8) reservoir, which is a similar play to the reservoirs found in the Pelikan, Naga, and Iguana fields. These three fields have recorded a cumulative gas production of 578 BCF.

“The Laba-Laba 1 well targets the primary Sandstone Upper Arang (UA Aa-8) reservoir, a play identical to the reservoirs in the Pelikan, Naga, and Iguana fields, which have a total cumulative production of 578 BCF (ESDC 2025). The UA Aa-8 prognosis is at a depth of 4,298 ft TVDSS, and will be drilled to a Total Depth of 5,597 ft TVDSS,” Djoko said in a written statement on Friday (31/07/2026).

Furthermore, Djoko noted that this well holds a potential recoverable resource of 45 BCF of dry gas. Laba-Laba 1 represents the first well in an exploration drilling campaign consisting of three wells. Following the completion of this well, drilling will proceed with the Bekantan-1 and Tenggiling South-1 wells, bringing the total potential recoverable resource from all three wells to 226 BCF of gas. The entire drilling series is targeted for completion by November 2026, prior to the monsoon season.

“The Laba-Laba 1 and Bekantan-1 wells are Near Field Exploration projects with a target PSE-POD of 2027, aiming for onstream production in 2028 or sooner at a rate of 23 mmscfd. The nearest production facility or Gathering Station (SP) in the Naga Field is approximately 15 km away.
