Kyocera talks with Bakrie
SYDNEY (Dow Jones): DDI Corp. and Kyocera Corp. of Japan plan to boost their investment in Australia-based Iridium South Pacific Pty., a provider of satellite telecommunications services, according to company executives.
Musahiro Umemura, executive vice president of Kyocera, told Dow Jones Newswires that Kyocera and DDI are currently in talks with PT Bakrie Communications Corp. of Indonesia about increasing their respective stakes in Iridium South Pacific.
Iridium South Pacific has a franchise from Washington D.C.- based Iridium LLC that covers Australia, New Zealand and certain countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region.
Last week, the U.S.-based company, which is backed by Motorola Inc. (MOT) also of the U.S., filed for protection from its creditors under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and is being reorganized.
