KY investigates alleged judicial misconduct in acid attack case
The Judicial Commission (KY) has begun investigating allegations of ethical violations and misconduct by judges of the Jakarta Military Court II-08 handling the acid attack case against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus.
KY Commissioner Abhan stated that the commission will conduct further verification of the report submitted by the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), including seeking statements from the complainants.
“The complainants will also be thoroughly verified to obtain deeper statements,” Abhan said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The report was previously submitted to the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission on 18 May 2026 regarding alleged ethical breaches in the handling of the case at Jakarta Military Court II-08.
Abhan added that the KY is still in the preliminary investigation phase and has not yet decided which other parties will be questioned during the examination.
“We will see how the investigation develops,” he said.
Nevertheless, the KY confirmed that the complainants will be the first to provide explanations to strengthen the complaint.
“Especially the complainants will certainly be asked for further statements,” Abhan said.
The KY has the authority to investigate alleged breaches of judicial ethics and conduct guidelines based on public reports or internal findings.
“The findings can serve as the basis for ethical sanctions against the accused judges,” he said.
The acid attack case involving Andrie Yunus has drawn attention from civil society groups due to its implications for the protection of human rights defenders and civil liberties.
