KY completes interviews for 9 Supreme Court criminal chamber candidates

The Judicial Commission (KY) has completed interviews for nine candidates for Supreme Court justices in the criminal chamber as part of the open selection for Supreme Court justices, ad hoc human rights judges, and ad hoc corruption court judges for the 2026 term. The interview stage for the nine criminal chamber candidates concluded on Wednesday, after taking place over two days since 3 August 2026. The nine candidates are Abdul Azis, Bambang Myanto, Dhifla Wiyani, Nirwana, Setyanto Hermawan, Sudharmawatiningsih, Sugjyanto, Suprapti, and Syamsul Arief. KY Chairman Abdul Chair Ramadhan stated that the open interviews aimed to test the candidates’ intellectual capacity, experience, competence, integrity, independence, leadership, and commitment to law enforcement and the values of justice. ‘The KY hopes that the candidates who pass and are proposed to the DPR are the best candidates with integrity and professionalism, capable of producing fair rulings and providing direction for the development of national law,’ he said. The open interview selection took place from 3 to 7 August 2026. Following the completion of the criminal chamber, interviews will continue for candidates for the civil chamber, the state administrative chamber specialising in tax, the religious chamber, as well as ad hoc human rights and corruption court candidates. The interviews were conducted by seven KY Commissioners alongside guest panellists according to each candidate’s area of competence. The entire selection process can be watched live via the Judicial Commission’s YouTube channel. The public was also given the opportunity to submit questions to the candidates as part of the transparency of the selection process. Subsequently, the KY will determine which candidates are declared successful based on the interview results and previous selection stages before proposing them to the DPR RI.
