Kwik's concern for disabled
Kwik's concern for disabled
Referring to the article by Kornelius Purba in The Jakarta Post Sunday edition, Dec. 15, 2002, entitled How can we help the disabled?" first of all we want to express our thanks to the writer for his constructive criticism of the Office of State Minister for National Development Planning/National Development Planning Board (Bappenas).
Minister Kwik Kian Gie has thoroughly read the article. In principle, he agreed with the writer's idea, that the care toward the disabled persons should not be limited only to artificial actions, like the display of banners.
Without any intention to make excuses, we can inform you that the hanging of the banner on the fence of the Bappenas Office is aimed to fulfill the request of the National Committee for International Day for Disabled Persons.
We hope for a suggestion from the Post, if in the future we receive similar requests again, whether we should accept or reject them. The minister himself prefers that government offices should be free of any posters or banners as is similar in modern countries.
We thank you for your attention.
