Kwateh double earns PSIS 2-0 win over PSS

Suherdjoko, Semarang

Roberto Kwateh scored twice to lead PSIS Semarang to a 2-0 victory over PSS Sleman in the Indonesian soccer league, while in Lamongan, East Java, the Persela-Persebaya match had to be abandoned after fans rushed the pitch.

Kwateh gave PSIS the lead with a penalty shot in the 44th minute following a foul by Yuniarto Budi on Darwin Perez.

Kwateh scored his second goal 10 minutes after the start of the second half.

PSS was forced to play with 10 men after Brazilian Anderson da Silva was sent off in the 71st minute after a hard foul on Dwi Adi Yuwono.

Down a man, PSS was unable to mount a comeback against PSIS.

"Our strategy worked well against PSS," PSIS coach Cornelis Soetadi said.

PSS was always going to have a difficult time against PSIS as it was unable to field five of its starters, including Jaldecir Deca Dos Santos who was back home in Brazil.

Wahyu Teguh, Nugroho and Eko Budi were all serving one-game suspensions because of yellow cards, while Francis Wollo was out injured.

PSIS was only one of two home teams to win on Wednesday. The other was Persija of Jakarta, which scraped out a 1-0 victory over Pelita Krakatau Steel.

PSPS was held to a 2-2 draw by PSMS in Pekanbaru, and Persib had to be content with a 1-1 draw with Persikota in Bandung. Home side Deltras lost to PKT Bontang 1-0.

In Lamongan, East Java, Persela was trailing Persebaya 3-0 when the home fans rushed the pitch in the 68th minute, forcing the match to be abandoned, Antara reported.

The fans aimed their anger at referee Suhartono, who was escorted off the pitch by the police.

Only after reinforcements were brought in from a nearby police station was the situation brought under control.

The goal scorers in the game were Danilo Fernando, Uston Nawawi and Christian Carassco.

Officials from the two teams are reportedly holding talks about completing the match at a later date.
