Kuwait's main oil facility damaged in Iranian attack

A major oil facility in Kuwait was damaged after coming under repeated attack by Iran on Saturday morning, according to a statement from the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. The assault resulted in a number of injuries, with casualties being treated in hospital, while the facility itself suffered significant damage. Earlier the same day, Kuwaiti Army General Staff personnel reported that air defence forces were continuously repelling a combined missile and drone attack. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that its forces successfully struck a fuel terminal at Kuwait’s Al Ahmadi port, which it claims supplies the US fleet. The attack follows a series of US military strikes against Iran that began on 8 July 2026, which US Central Command (CENTCOM) described as retaliation for Iranian actions against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian forces subsequently launched counter-strikes against US airbases across several Middle Eastern countries. On 9 July 2026, US President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire between the US and Iran was no longer in effect.
