Kuwaiti Tanker Reported to Have Exploded, UKMTO: All Crew Safe
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received reports of an explosion heard at Mubarak al-Kabeer, Kuwait. The source of the explosion is believed to be at the Kuwait-flagged tanker’s location. According to Al Jazeera, on Thursday 5 March 2026, the master of the tanker, which was berthed, reported hearing and seeing a large explosion on the port side before observing a small boat leaving the area. Oil from the cargo tank was seen spilling into the sea. The incident could have environmental implications, and the vessel was taking on water. UKMTO said there were no fatalities from the incident. All crew members were confirmed safe.
