Kuwait suspends flights after airport terminal hit by attacks

Kuwait City (ANTARA) - Kuwait suspended flight operations at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday (3/6) after several drones and missiles struck Terminal 1 of the airport, causing significant damage to facilities and injuring several people, according to Kuwaiti authorities. The Kuwait Directorate General of Civil Aviation stated in a statement released by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that emergency plans had been activated following the attack, which authorities have linked to Iran. All flights have been suspended and diverted to alternative airports until necessary procedures are completed and Kuwait International Airport is confirmed ready to resume operational activities. Further information regarding the number of casualties or the extent of the damage is not yet available. The suspension was implemented several hours after the Kuwaiti military stated that their air defence systems were responding to missile and drone attacks targeting the country. In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said that their air defence units were engaging enemy targets, adding that several explosions heard across the country were the result of interception operations.
