Kuwait’s air defence is currently responding to missile and drone threats from adversaries, according to a statement by the Kuwaiti armed forces on Thursday morning, in response to regional tensions amid a fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran.

‘Any explosions heard are due to air defence systems intercepting hostile targets,’ the military said onThursday.

Residents are urged to follow safety and security instructions issued by authorities.

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran inFebruary. Tehran retaliated with attacks on Israel and US allies in the Gulf, and closed the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire mediated by Pakistan came into effect on April 8 and was subsequently extended indefinitely by US President Donald Trump.
