Kuwait reopens airport operations after suspected Iranian attack
Kuwait City - The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Kuwait announced on Wednesday the reopening of all Kuwait Airways flights through Terminal 4 at Kuwait International Airport, following a suspected Iranian attack that killed one person and injured 63 others. In a statement uploaded to social media platform X, the DGCA conveyed that the decision was made following extensive field inspections and technical evaluations conducted by a specialised team and relevant authorities to verify the terminal’s operational readiness and its capability to serve flights and passengers safely. Earlier on Wednesday, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that one person was killed and several others injured after ballistic missiles and drones struck civil and vital facilities across the country, including Kuwait International Airport, in an attack Kuwait linked to Iran. In a statement, the ministry strongly condemned what it described as Iran’s continuing attacks targeting key civilian infrastructure. Later the same day, Kuwaiti health authorities reported that 63 people were wounded in the attack, triggering the activation of emergency response plans and the mobilisation of medical teams across the Gulf nation. Ministry of Health spokesman Abdullah Al-Sanad said in a press statement that his ministry had been on full alert since the early hours of the attack and had implemented emergency measures to treat the victims. Al-Sanad stated that hospitals had received 63 injured victims and performed seven major emergency surgeries following the incident. The wounded included civilians, airport employees, and travellers, he explained, adding that the victims suffered a range of injuries including fractures, head wounds, cerebral haemorrhaging, amputations, blast injuries, and cases of smoke inhalation.
