The Kuwaiti military reported that its air defence system intercepted missile and drone attacks on its territory on Monday (1/6) local time. The attacks triggered air raid sirens across various parts of Kuwait.

In a statement cited by AFP on Monday (1/6/2026), the Kuwaiti military said its air defence systems “intercepted enemy missile and drone attacks” without specifying the source.

“The Air Force General Staff would like to inform that the explosion sounds heard were due to the air defence system intercepting these enemy attacks,” the military stated on its official X account.

Kuwaiti citizens were urged to follow security and safety instructions issued by relevant authorities.

Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported that air raid warning sirens sounded throughout Kuwait as the air defence system intercepted detected missiles and drones.

Local media reports, cited by Anadolu Agency, indicated that the sound of Kuwait’s air defence activities was heard in the Jahra area, west of Kuwait City.

Kuwaiti authorities have not released details on the suspected origin of the missile and drone attacks. There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the attacks.

The attack occurred amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following the ongoing US-Israel campaign against Iran, which began in late February with large-scale US-Israel strikes on Iran.

Tehran responded with waves of missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US military assets, including Kuwait.

To date, the Iranian government or military has not issued an official statement regarding the intercepted attacks by Kuwait.
