Kuwait Faces New Missile and Drone Threats, Says Military

Kuwait City (ANTARA) - Kuwait’s air defence systems intercepted a number of ‘enemy’ missiles and drones on Thursday (23/7) evening local time, accompanied by the sound of explosions heard in several areas of the country, the Kuwaiti military said.

The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces stated on social media platform X that the air defence systems were currently responding to enemy missile and drone threats, adding that the explosion sounds heard by residents were the result of the air defence systems intercepting hostile targets.

The Kuwaiti military urged the public to comply with safety instructions, but did not specify the number of drones intercepted, the origin of the attack, or whether the attack caused any casualties or material damage.

Meanwhile, the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA, reported that warning sirens had been activated across the country.

In recent days, the United States military has launched several waves of strikes against Iranian targets, claiming the strikes were a response to actions by Iranian armed forces targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, and aimed at ‘degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping.’

Iran responded by launching waves of missile and drone attacks targeting US military bases and facilities in the region, including those located in Kuwait.

Earlier on Thursday, the Gulf Cooperation Council member states and Jordan issued a joint statement condemning what they described as continued Iranian attacks targeting their territories.
