Kuwait Expels Two Iranian Embassy Staff Following Drone Attack on Airport

According to AFP, an Iranian drone attack struck an airport in Kuwait on Wednesday (3/6/2026) local time, resulting in one death and dozens of injuries. Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister, Hamad Suleiman Al-Mashaan, summoned the Iranian chargé d’affaires in Kuwait, Hamed Yaqoubi Far, to deliver an official protest note from the Kuwaiti government regarding the drone strike.

In the protest note, the Kuwaiti government requested a reduction in the number of Iranian embassy staff in the country and declared two members of the Iranian diplomatic mission as persona non grata. The Kuwaiti government has officially ordered these two embassy members to leave Kuwaiti territory within the next 24 hours.

Furthermore, the Kuwaiti government has refuted Iranian claims that its territory was being used by the United States to launch attacks against Iran. “Kuwait’s firm rejection of the use of its territory or airspace in any hostile actions against any country emphasises that Iran’s false claims are baseless and unsupported by evidence,” stated the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As reported, the Iranian military launched a drone attack against one of the passenger terminals at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday morning. The attack injured several individuals and forced a temporary suspension of flight activities at the airport. Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence spokesperson, Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan, described the drone attack as “Iranian criminal aggression that resulted in significant material damage to buildings and caused injuries.”

While Al-Atwan did not specify the exact number of casualties, he confirmed via social media that the injured have received medical treatment. Kuwaiti news agencies reported that civil aviation authorities have suspended air traffic at Kuwait International Airport, diverting incoming flights to several alternative airports. The reports noted that Terminal One was specifically targeted, leading to casualties and significant damage.
