Kuwait Claims to Have Intercepted Iranian Drone Attack
The conflict between Iran and the United States continues to spill over into other Middle Eastern countries. Most recently, Kuwait stated that it had intercepted Iranian missiles and drones.
According to Al Jazeera on Sunday (19/7/2026), Kuwait’s military General Staff said its air defences had “confronted enemy missile and drone attacks” following “Iran’s sinful aggression”.
“Every explosion heard is a result of the air defence system intercepting the enemy attack,” it said in a post on X.
The warning came several hours after Iranian forces claimed a large-scale drone attack against an ammunition warehouse at Camp Buehring, formerly known as Camp Udairi, and an air defence radar system at Ali Al Salem Air Base.
Previously, it was reported that the US military said it had launched a new air strike on Iran to ‘swiftly punish’ the country for killing American service members.
“These strikes are designed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard forces who launched an attack against American service members in Jordan last night,” US Central Command said in a post on X.
CENTCOM had earlier announced that two US service members were killed and one was missing in the fighting. This marks the first American military fatalities from Iranian fire since March.
“Two US service members were killed as US and allied forces defended against Iranian ballistic missiles and unmanned aircraft,” CENTCOM said in a statement.
Meanwhile, four other personnel have been evacuated to hospital in Jordan for medical treatment. To date, there has been no further information regarding the identities of the slain US soldiers or details of the search operation for the missing personnel.
Iran threatened to continue ‘full-scale offensive operations’ if the US kept launching waves of attacks against the country. The threat, as reported by AFP and Egypt Independent, was made by a senior official of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Major General Mohsen Rezaei, who also serves as a senior military adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
