The Kutai Timur Regency (Kutim) in East Kalimantan is producing a generation of noble character through scholarships for 1,000 Quran memorising children, enabling them to implement the Quran’s content in everyday life to do good for others.

“The Kutai Timur Regency Government is committed to supporting the emergence of a Quranic generation through education programmes currently implemented at various levels in both public and private schools,” said Kutim Regent Ardiansyah Sulaiman in Sangatta on Sunday.

This effort is pursued through various programmes, one of which is the implementation of scholarships for Quran memorisers as part of the 50 flagship local government programmes.

This is important because one of the goals of memorising the Quran is to understand, practise, and make it a guide for life. Memorisation also serves as a foundation so that the content, meaning, and laws of Allah are always in the heart, understood, and applied in all daily actions.

“Scholarships for 1,000 Quran memorising children represent the local government’s attention and support for young people who love and preserve the Quran. Meanwhile, the mechanisms and technical implementation will be further regulated by the Education Department,” said the regent.

The day before, while attending the Quran Completion at SD Islam Terpadu Daarussalam Sangatta, the regent also hoped that in the future, Quran completion events could be held in public schools as a form of appreciation for students’ abilities in reading and memorising the Quran.

“Schools that hold religious activities such as completions are a form of support to produce a generation that is not only academically intelligent but also strong in religious education,” he said.

The completion at this integrated Islamic primary school became a special moment for the students who had completed their Quran studies with achievements in tartil (proper recitation), turjuman (interpretation), as well as memorisation of juz 1–16, juz 29, and juz 30.

A total of 220 selected students from grades II to VI of the primary school participated in the completion and examination on the Quran’s content. The students demonstrated their ability to read the Quran up to the translation of the verses recited.
