Kutai Kartanegara prepares 7-hectare site for integrated People's School
The 7-hectare site in Muara Badak is strategically located, with good road access and proximity to residential areas.
Tenggarong, East Kalimantan - The Kutai Kartanegara Regency in East Kalimantan has allocated a 7-hectare plot for an integrated People’s School spanning primary, junior high, and senior high levels. Construction is scheduled for mid-year to allow the 2027/2028 academic year to admit new students.
The site is in Batu-Batu Village, Muara Badak Subdistrict, directly behind the former Muara Badak District Office. The total land area is 22 hectares, but only seven are needed for initial construction, leaving sufficient space for future facility expansion.
“The 7-hectare site in Muara Badak is strategically located with good road access and close to residential areas,” said Regent Aulia Rahman Basri in Tenggarong on Monday.
The land has been confirmed clear and free of disputes, with proper land certification, allowing the government to proceed with building the school.
The school is projected to accommodate 800-1,000 students, prioritising children from poor, vulnerable, and orphaned families across all districts of Kutai Kartanegara.
These families must be registered in the Social Welfare Integrated Data (DTKS) of the Ministry of Social Affairs, hold a Student Assistance Card (KIP), or be participants in the Family Hope Programme (PKH), or receive other social assistance.
Additionally, children with physical, sensory, or intellectual disabilities who can still participate in daily learning and activities independently or with limited assistance will be included.
To ensure the sustainability of the People’s School project, the regent and the Head of Kutai Kartanegara’s Social Affairs Office, Rinda Desianti, met with Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo in Jakarta on Thursday, 21 May.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Agus Jabo stated that the People’s School is a priority programme, so all regional school construction proposals will be considered, though construction timelines depend on technical assessments and fiscal space.
