Kutai Kartanegara Coordinates with Investment Ministry on Forestry Carbon Trading Permits

TENGGARONG. Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar) Regional Secretary Sunggono held an audience and coordination meeting with the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM regarding forestry sector carbon trading activities on peatland areas outside forest zones within Kutai Kartanegara Regency, at the Ministry's office in Jakarta on Thursday (22/5/2025).

During the meeting, Kukar Regional Secretary Sunggono was accompanied by DPMPTSP Head Alfian Noor and Plantation Agency Head M Taufik. The delegation was received by Dedi Latif, Deputy for Investment Planning; Didi Apriadi, Special Staff for Regional Relations; and Ratih Purbasari Kania, Director of Natural Resources and Manufacturing Industry Planning.

Sunggono stated that he and his delegation were coordinating regarding permits and procedures for forestry sector carbon utilisation on peatland areas located outside forest zones in the Kukar region.

Sunggono also noted that the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM expressed gratitude for Kukar's visit, as it provided the ministry with new information regarding carbon permit issues. According to him, the central government appreciated the bold and important steps taken to ensure investment in the region proceeds smoothly.

"We hope this matter can be communicated and facilitated, so that in the future there can be follow-up meetings and this becomes a starting point, a meeting point for all issues in the field of multi-carbon policy. This could serve as a reference for all of Indonesia," he said.

Sunggono added that Kukar is the first regency to have issued a Regent's Decree on carbon management governance. In terms of carbon, Kukar has peatland and mangrove areas that can be well managed.

Also present at the meeting were Edi J from DPPR, Baharuddin from DPMPTSP, Wisnu Tjandra as President Director of PT Tirta Carbon Indonesia (TCI), Operations Director Antonius Sj, and Ovi AS from TCI.
