Kuta Police Officer Allegedly Ordered 40 Ecstasy Pills for Party

Allegations of drug abuse involving a police officer have once again shaken the police institution in Bali. The head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Kuta Police, First Inspector MDP, is suspected of ordering dozens of ecstasy pills for a party at a nightclub in the Canggu area. Based on information gathered, MDP allegedly ordered at least 40 ecstasy pills. The illicit substances were reportedly intended for a party with colleagues and several businesspeople at one of the largest nightlife venues in Bali. The suspicion arose after the Bali Regional Police’s Narcotics Investigation Directorate developed leads from the arrest of a woman and a courier believed to be carrying the officer’s order. Information also circulated regarding evidence in the form of chat history between MDP and the courier, as well as proof of a money transfer to the courier’s account. The Director of Narcotics Investigation at the Bali Regional Police, Commissioner Radiant, gave a brief response regarding the report of the 40-pill order. He denied the details of the information concerning the quantity of evidence. ‘Sorry, that information is not true,’ said Commissioner Radiant via a short WhatsApp message, referring to the narrative of the large order. However, the police did not deny that MDP is currently undergoing internal disciplinary proceedings. The Head of Public Relations of the Bali Regional Police, Commissioner Ariasandy, confirmed that a urine test on First Inspector MDP showed a positive result for drugs. ‘The information I received from the Narcotics Directorate is that his urine test was positive,’ Ariasandy stated when confirmed on Thursday (9/7/2026). Regarding MDP’s status, Ariasandy explained that the officer is undergoing a 30-day special placement as part of the internal police examination procedure. ‘He is currently detained for 30 days. The detention period ended yesterday on the 8th, but the examination process is still ongoing,’ Ariasandy stressed. The police are currently conducting further investigations to determine whether First Inspector MDP was solely a user or more deeply involved in a distribution network. There has been no official statement regarding the determination of criminal legal status related to the alleged order of 40 ecstasy pills, as the investigation within the Bali Regional Police is still underway.
