Kushner and Netanyahu agree next steps in Gaza ceasefire

US Special Envoy Jared Kushner and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed on further steps in the Gaza ceasefire plan, including the opportunity to continue implementing the agreement.

“We agreed with Netanyahu on the way forward. The Israeli side will provide an opportunity. Now it is Hamas’s turn to show whether they truly intend to comply with the agreement,” said a Board of Peace official quoted by The Jerusalem Post on Monday.

Reuters later reported, citing several sources, that Kushner and Netanyahu agreed that the disarmament of Hamas must be carried out before the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu was also reported to have agreed to the establishment of working groups on disarmament and demilitarisation, as well as public health in Gaza.

The meeting between Kushner and Netanyahu lasted around four hours.

CNN previously reported that Kushner urged Israel to support the US-proposed ceasefire plan and not to “create obstacles”.

However, Netanyahu was reported to view the implementation of the plan as “problematic” because Israel will hold elections at the end of October.

On 9 October 2025, Israel and Hamas, through the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, the US and Turkey, agreed to implement the first phase of the peace plan proposed by President Donald Trump.

The ceasefire came into effect in the Gaza Strip a day later. Under the agreement, Israeli forces withdrew to a line called the Yellow Line and continue to control more than 50 percent of Gaza’s territory.

At the end of July, the Board of Peace announced that Hamas had agreed to a roadmap for implementing the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The plan includes the gradual transfer of control of Gaza to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, with a special body established to monitor violations by Hamas and Israel.
