Kupang Revenue Agency PPPK Embezzles Rp 500 Million in Local Taxes, Returns Only Rp 100 Million
Suspicions of local tax embezzlement amounting to more than Rp 500 million by a PPPK employee at the Kupang City Revenue Agency (Bapenda) have begun to unravel. Of that amount, only Rp 100 million has been returned so far.
The employee with initials WK is known to be a PPPK serving at Bapenda.
The case surfaced following public complaints regarding tax payments not accompanied by receipts from Bapenda officials, which was then followed up with a first-stage examination.
“For the first stage, the individual has signed the SK TMJ (Absolute Liability Certificate) worth more than Rp 500 million. That was the first stage we examined for one person with initials WK, who is a PPPK,” explained the Secretary of the Regional Government (Sekda) of Kupang City, Jeffry Pelt, on Saturday (25/4/2026).
Jeffry stated that WK had signed the SK TMJ in his office, witnessed directly by himself along with the Inspectorate and the Head of Bapenda.
“He signed it in my room, witnessed by me, Mr Semi (Head of Bapenda), the Inspector, and the examination team,” he said.
Before signing the document, WK was asked to read and initial every page of the agreement.
“So before signing, I asked him to read it and initial each page because he had to see what he was signing on the stamp duty worth more than Rp 500 million. And the individual has returned Rp 100 million,” he detailed.
To date, the tracing process is still ongoing, including the return of the remaining regional losses.
“The Kupang City Government ensures that the tracing process and return of regional losses continue,” he concluded.
