A man identified by the initials FK (30) was arrested by the Kupang City Police Resort (Polresta Kupang Kota) for pawning his boss’s car to gamble online (online gambling, or judol). FK is now undergoing legal proceedings at the Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of Polresta Kupang Kota.

“Indeed, the car was pawned to gamble judol. A man suspected of embezzling a unit of his employer’s car has been arrested,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Polresta Kupang Kota, AKP Jumpatua Simanjorang, to detikBali, on Thursday (5/3/2026).

Jumpatua explained that the case began when the car owner, AH, asked FK to become an online driver under a daily settlement system. However, over time, FK began delaying settlements and became hard to contact.

The culmination came on 20 February 2026, when AH was shocked to learn that his car had already been pawned by FK. He reported the incident to the Integrated Police Service Centre (SPKT) of Polresta Kupang Kota because FK’s contact number was not active.

After intensive investigations, FK’s whereabouts were finally uncovered. Police then arrested FK on Jalan Timor Raya, Kelurahan Oesapa Barat, Kecamatan Kelapa Lima, Kupang City, on the evening of Wednesday 4 March 2026.

“The perpetrator is a long-time player in similar cases. Based on the interrogation, the perpetrator admitted pawning the victim’s car due to debt entangled by gambling addiction (judol),” said Jumpatua.

According to Jumpatua, FK has repeatedly carried out similar actions by pawning various types of vehicles, both cars and motorcycles. After arresting FK, police immediately traced the location of the Daihatsu Sigra car that was under the control of FK’s friend.

Not long afterwards, police found the car and brought it to Polresta Kupang Kota as evidence. FK is now undergoing intensive examination to be processed legally.

“The perpetrator faces charges of embezzlement. We urge rental or transportation business owners to be more selective and vigilant in employing people to prevent similar incidents,” urged Jumpatua.
