Kupang Father Assaults 7-Month-Old Baby Over Jealousy About Wife’s Photo With Ex-Boyfriend

An infant seven months old, a baby girl, was allegedly assaulted by his father in RT 10, RW 04, Naioni Urban Village, Alak District, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, on Tuesday 19 May 2026 at around 23:30 Central Indonesia Time. The attack was carried out by AT against his own seven-month-old baby girl identified by the initials A. The Alak Police Sector chief AKP I Ketut Setiasa told detikBali on Wednesday, 20 May 2026 that the incident began when AT saw his wife MR’s WhatsApp profile picture had been replaced with a photo of her ex-boyfriend. Upon seeing this, AT reportedly became enraged and felt jealous, and he vented his anger by beating the infant. The assault was recorded on video and subsequently sent to MR. Shocked by AT’s actions, MR contacted her family to check on the child at the scene; MR’s mother then went to the location. At the same time, Naioni village Bhabinkamtibmas Aiptu Ferdinan Bagaihing, along with officers from the Alak Police Sector, arrived at the scene. When the officers reached the home, the situation was tense as both the paternal and maternal families gathered at the location, Setiasa said. After mediation, the infant was taken to be cared for by MR’s family, while AT is currently undergoing further questioning.
