Kupang destroys befouled sugar

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) in Kupang recently found contaminated sugar in several local stores and shops, an agency official said on Wednesday.

BPOM Kupang head Sally Markus said hundreds of kilograms of sugar had been contaminated by sea and rain water, and was no longer consumable and hazardous to the health.

The office had seized about 380 sacks of sugar and destroyed them, and was searching Kupang stores and shops for other sacks of bad sugar, said Sally. -- JP
