Kupang City Government Urges MSMEs to Register for Business Identification Numbers

The Kupang City Government in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has called on all local micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) operators to obtain a Business Identification Number (NIB) as proof of legality and to access a range of benefits.

"NIB registration is free of charge. The public can apply directly at the Public Service Mall (MPP), either at the DPMPTSP office or the MPP at the El Tari Car Free Day (CFD) venue in Kupang," said Acting Secretary of Kupang City's DPMPTSP, Penina Lauata, in Kupang on Saturday.

She said that beyond serving as proof of business legality, an NIB provides numerous benefits that support MSME activities.

"With an NIB, MSME operators can more easily participate in programmes or receive government assistance. It also simplifies applications for business capital loans (KUR) from banks and access to aid from donor institutions, as the business already holds an official permit," she said.

NIB registration is conducted through the website oss.go.id or the OSS Indonesia application. "The NIB is created online and issued immediately. You only need to prepare your national identity card number (NIK) and an active WhatsApp number," she added.

She said NIB registration can be done independently, but for those who need assistance, her office provides direct support at the MPP counter at the DPMPTSP office or at the MPP during Kupang's Car Free Day every Saturday morning.

"The public say they find the MPP counter at the CFD very helpful. If they are busy on working days, Saturday becomes their free time to arrange their NIB at the DPMPTSP counter," she said.

The presence of the MPP at CFD events, she continued, represents the government's effort to bring services closer to the public. The DPMPTSP counter can process approximately five to ten NIBs at each CFD session. Additionally, her office offers business consultation services and direct visits to MSME stalls for educational purposes.

"Today our counter issued four NIBs and visited eight MSME operators at the CFD venue," she said.

She expressed hope that in future, more MSME operators would be educated about and register for NIBs as proof of legality, particularly as the service is free.

She also noted that the Kupang CFD MPP features service counters from the Kupang City Police for driving licence processing, the Kupang City Samsat office for annual motor vehicle tax payments, BPJS Kesehatan (national health insurance), and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (workers' social security).
