The Kupang City Government (Pemkot Kupang) has held a mass wedding ceremony. The programme reached 101 couples from various religions. Among them, 49 couples came from the Catholic Church and officially received blessings at St Andreas Lasiana Parish on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

Kupang Mayor Christian Widodo stated that this mass wedding is part of the series of events for the 140th Anniversary of Kupang City and 30 years as an autonomous region.

“The government exists to serve. That is our commitment for the next five years. And today is proof that the government is present to serve, including through this mass wedding,” Christian asserted.

The mass wedding, Christian explained, is a government policy that favours the people to ensure that citizens’ basic rights, including the legality of marriages, are fulfilled.

“If today Kupang City shines, it is not because of the torch in the mayor’s office, but because of the small candles that light up in families. Because the family is the main foundation in building the city,” Christian said.

The politician from the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) stated that Pemkot Kupang is also rolling out other social programmes besides the mass wedding. Various programmes include scholarship assistance for 695 students, mass circumcisions, and rehabilitation of 500 residents’ homes.
