Kupang City DP3A Highlights High Number of Violence Cases Against Women and Children
The Kupang City Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Agency (DP3A) has highlighted the high number of violence cases against women and children in Kupang City, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). Based on data, cases of violence against women in the area reached 314 in 2025.
Kupang City DP3A Head Marciana Halek revealed that this number is considered high. In 2023, she stated, there were 292 cases of violence against women in Kupang City. Then, in 2024, 407 cases were recorded.
“From the incoming data, the last three years indeed show an increasing trend,” explained Marciana on Saturday (28/3/2026).
Meanwhile, for violence cases against children, 130 cases were recorded in 2023, 209 in 2024, and 154 in 2025. According to her, Kupang City DP3A has undertaken various efforts to reduce violence cases against women and children in Kupang City.
“We continue to socialise and educate the community, schools, and we also advocate together with religious figures, because they have influence over the community, with content on values within the family,” explained Marciana.
They are also collaborating with the Kupang City Education Agency regarding supervision of students in school environments. According to Marciana, prevention needs to be carried out through cross-sector collaboration.
“What we are concerned about is the iceberg phenomenon. Meaning, perhaps many cases have already occurred, but we don’t know,” she clarified.
Marciana also highlighted child prostitution cases in Kupang. According to her, prostitution practices have now evolved through technology.
“For that, active roles from the community are very much needed, especially with the current technological developments also influencing the acceleration of prostitution,” said Marciana.
“We urge the community to act together, to care in efforts to prevent and protect children from any form of violence, including sexual violence,” she concluded.
