Kuningan to Establish 100 Child-Friendly Mosques
Hundreds of mosques in Kuningan Regency are set to become Child-Friendly Mosques, a move receiving full support from the Kuningan Regency Government.
The Chairperson of the Kuningan Regency Child-Friendly Mosque Team, Ii Wasita, stated that mosques hold a strategic function as centres for education and character development for children aged 0 to 18 years. He noted that a safe and comfortable mosque environment can serve as a place to nurture a generation with noble morals, capable of addressing the various social challenges faced by children today.
He believes that the existence of Child-Friendly Mosques can provide a platform for children to participate in various positive, creative, innovative, recreational, and spiritually-based activities. The programme is also expected to serve as an effort to prevent various issues such as gadget addiction, bullying, brawls, drug abuse, and other deviant behaviours.
According to Wasita, the Child-Friendly Mosque Team has drafted several upcoming work agendas. One of these is the socialisation of Child-Friendly Mosque standards, scheduled for 11 July 2026.
“Following that, there will be the declaration of 100 Child-Friendly Mosques, coinciding with National Children’s Day on 23 July 2026,” said Ii Wasita, during the inauguration of the Kuningan Regency DMI (Indonesian Muslim Organisation) Board for the 2023–2028 term and the Child-Friendly Mosque Team Board for the 2026–2028 term, at Taman Klinik Gafari on Sunday (28/6/2026).
Additionally, there will be the ‘54,000 Muslim Children Dawn Prayer Movement’ to be held on 26 July 2026. This activity will take place across all grand mosques in villages and sub-districts throughout Kuningan Regency.
According to Ii Wasita, the development of Child-Friendly Mosques is based on four main pillars: Quranic values that position the mosque as a safe and comfortable place; the example of Prophet Muhammad SAW in treating children with compassion within the mosque environment; support for the implementation of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection; and the strategic policies of the DMI which encourage the realisation of Kuningan Regency as a Child-Friendly Regency.
The Regent of Kuningan, Dian Rachmat Yanuar, emphasised that the Child-Friendly Mosque (MRA) programme is a long-term investment in building civilisation through the character formation of the younger generation.
“Today, we are preparing for civilisation. Fifty years from now, those present today may no longer be here, but the children who are currently toddlers will become the generation that determines the face of Kuningan Regency. Therefore, the best investment is not just building roads or buildings, but building their noble character,” he said.
