Kuningan Regency to Evaluate Principals Who Fail to Show Progress and Innovation

Kuningan (ANTARA) - The Kuningan Regency Government (Pemkab) in West Java will evaluate newly appointed school principals if, within the next six months, they are unable to demonstrate progress or innovation that impacts school quality improvement. Kuningan Bupati Dian Rachmat Yanuar stated on Monday that principals hold a crucial role in determining the quality of education, and therefore every school leader is required to deliver real change. “If there is no progress or breakthrough within six months, we will certainly evaluate them. I have high expectations because they occupy a very strategic position,” he said. He conveyed that the assignment as a principal is not merely an administrative post, but a mandate to mobilise all educational resources to achieve better outcomes. “Today we handed over appointment decrees (SK) to 102 teachers assigned as school principals, comprising 94 teachers at the primary school level (SD) and eight teachers at the junior high school level (SMP),” he stated. Dian emphasised that principals must be leaders who not only manage administration but also introduce innovation and drive improvements in the quality of learning at their schools. He said a principal is required to be a role model in discipline, creativity, and the ability to adapt to developments in the education sector. Neglected facilities, he noted, can disrupt the comfort of the teaching and learning process and reflect weak school management. “I do not want to see broken toilets, dull windows, overgrown grass, doors broken for years, or sagging roof tiles. Do not talk about education quality if such basic matters are still ignored,” he said. He added that budget constraints must not be used as an excuse to neglect the upkeep of the school environment, as principals are expected to be creative in finding solutions and building a clean, safe, and comfortable learning environment for students. “Achievement must be the primary consideration. Meanwhile, those who do not show good performance must be evaluated objectively,” said Kuningan Bupati Dian Rachmat Yanuar.
