Kuningan Regency allocates 22,588 hectares of sustainable farmland in spatial plan

The Kuningan Regency Government in West Java has allocated 22,588 hectares of Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (LP2B) within the draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) for the 2026-2046 Spatial Plan (RTRW) to safeguard productive agricultural land. Kuningan Regent Dian Rachmat Yanuar stated on Sunday that the policy is part of the region’s development direction, balancing economic growth with environmental protection. “We are striving to balance investment needs, improving community welfare, and protecting natural resources as the main capital for Kuningan Regency’s development,” he said. He noted that the programme was presented during a cross-sector coordination meeting on the substantive approval of the Kuningan Regency RTRW, held by the Directorate General of Spatial Planning at the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency. According to him, the 2026-2046 RTRW was drafted to adapt to development dynamics, accommodate national policies, and open investment opportunities while considering environmental carrying capacity. “The document is also directed to serve as a 20-year development guideline for Kuningan Regency, focusing on economic growth based on the agricultural sector and environmentally sound tourism,” he said. Dian explained that Kuningan Regency covers approximately 119,000 hectares, dominated by mountainous areas and the slopes of Mount Ciremai, giving it a role as a conservation area and ecological buffer zone in West Java. Therefore, he emphasised that spatial planning policies are focused on protecting conservation areas, water catchment zones, and controlling the conversion of productive agricultural land. Additionally, the RTRW aims to promote the development of leading sectors, including agriculture, horticulture, ecotourism, water resource management, and environmentally friendly industries. He mentioned that the planned LP2B area reaches 22,588 hectares, or about 87.13 percent of the total raw rice field land, serving as an instrument to maintain regional food security. “This cross-sector meeting is a stage before the Ministry of ATR/BPN issues the Substantive Approval for the Kuningan Regency RTRW, which is a prerequisite for discussing and enacting the draft regional regulation,” he said.
