Kuningan Landfill Fire Continues to Spread, Five Hectares Engulfed

A major fire at the Ciniru Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA) in Jalaksana District, Kuningan Regency, remains uncontained. Entering its second day on Thursday (13/8/2026), the burnt area has expanded to approximately five hectares.

The Head of the Kuningan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Indra, explained that flames and smoke from the waste piles were first detected on Wednesday (12/8/2026) around 4:00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. The blaze then rapidly intensified due to strong winds and the dry weather of the dry season.

Firefighting efforts involve joint personnel from various agencies. On Thursday, around 200 personnel were deployed, divided into several teams targeting scattered fire spots in the northern and southern sections of the site.

“Today, we are also monitoring and capturing drone imagery, including using a thermal drone to map hotspots and fire points to facilitate firefighting efforts,” Indra stated on Thursday.

He explained that firefighting operations on Thursday were conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, followed by monitoring starting at 7:00 p.m. Further firefighting operations will be carried out on Friday (14/8/2026) and will be determined following a briefing and evaluation by the joint team.
