The Food Security and Agriculture Office (Diskatan) of Kuningan Regency, West Java, is promoting dragon fruit as a regional flagship commodity to boost the economic value for local farmers. Wahyu Hidayah, Head of Diskatan Kuningan, stated on Wednesday that dragon fruit has strong potential due to its economic value and increasing public demand. The local government is prioritising the development of this commodity through farmer mentoring and by highlighting its agritourism potential, such as at a dragon fruit orchard in Sangkanhurip Village, Cigandamekar District. Production data from January to June 2026 shows that Nusaherang District, particularly Windusari Village, produced approximately 3.3 tonnes of dragon fruit, while Mandirancan District, centred in Sadamantra Village, yielded around 2.5 tonnes of yellow and red dragon fruit. Wahyu emphasised that agricultural development must now focus not only on production but also on creating added value and business opportunities, especially for young farmers.
