Kulon Progo Village Chief Suspended After Being Named Suspect in Extortion Case

The head of Garongan Village, Ngadiman, has been temporarily suspended from his position after being named a suspect in an alleged illegal levy case. This was confirmed by the Regional Secretary of Kulon Progo, Triyono. “He has been temporarily dismissed because he is now a suspect according to the police,” Triyono told detikJogja via text message on Tuesday (23/6/2026). Triyono emphasised that an acting head of Garongan Village would be appointed in due course. “An acting official will be appointed later, but it has not been done today; perhaps it will be processed soon,” he added.

Kulon Progo Regent Agung Setyawan explained that the decree suspending Ngadiman was signed on Monday (22/6). He stressed that the Kulon Progo Regency Government respects the ongoing legal process. “The suspect determination emerged on Saturday and entered the regional government’s electronic system on Sunday. I then requested a trace of the basis for the determination number. On Monday, a working day, I drafted the temporary dismissal letter based on the determination number from the police, and I signed it at 11 a.m. This means the regional government has acted in accordance with procedure,” he said. “If there are questions about why he was still able to enter the office on Monday, please coordinate with the local village, because the letter from the regional government arrived at the village around lunchtime. It is clear I signed it at 11 a.m.,” Agung clarified.

For context, the head of Garongan Village, Ngadiman, was officially named a suspect by investigators from the Kulon Progo Police Criminal Investigation Unit. He is implicated in an alleged illegal levy case. The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Kulon Progo Police, First Inspector Subihan Afuan Ardhi, confirmed the matter when asked for confirmation. The suspect determination was made after the police conducted a case review. “That is correct (he has been named a suspect). As of today,” Subihan said when contacted by reporters on Thursday (18/6). Although he has been named a suspect, Ngadiman has not yet been detained. The police have only scheduled an examination of Ngadiman as a suspect for the following week. “Next week we will issue a summons for his examination as a suspect,” he said.
