Kulon Progo Upgraded: Jatimulyo Tourism Village Receives Halal Certification Directly from Minister
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that accelerating halal certification is now part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen a competitive and inclusive national tourism ecosystem.
She explained that the halal certification programme is no longer limited but has been expanded nationwide to reach thousands of tourism villages across regions.
Her remarks were made during the halal certification handover event for business operators at Jatimulyo Tourism Village at Rest Area Kembang Tebu, Jalan Raya Kembang Tebu, Padukuhan Gendu, Kalurahan Jatimulyo, Kapanewon Girimulyo, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
The programme began in 2025 with a pilot project in 20 tourism villages, later significantly expanding to approximately 1,500 villages nationwide by the end of 2025.
According to Widiyanti, the move aims to bolster Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness while enhancing the economic value of tourism villages, making them higher quality, inclusive, and directly beneficial to residents.
She revealed that national halal certification achievements in the tourism village sector have reached 31,548 certificates across 1,116 villages in 34 provinces as of 30 May 2026.
“Behind every halal certificate lies a process of guidance, product quality improvement, and opening up greater economic opportunities for local businesses,” she said.
She added that Indonesia has significant potential as a global halal tourism destination, making the strengthening of the halal ecosystem a strategic step to expand the international tourist market.
The programme also directly strengthens tourism village SMEs by enhancing competitiveness, widening market access, and building consumer confidence in local products for both domestic and international tourists.
Jatimulyo Tourism Village is one of the government’s successful halal certification programme showcases.
As of 30 May 2026, 123 businesses with 139 SME products in the village have received halal certification. This achievement positions Jatimulyo as an example of a quality-based tourism ecosystem and community economic empowerment.
With these results, Jatimulyo is recognised as a model for tourism village development that focuses not only on tourism visits but also on strengthening local economies through competitive SMEs.
