Kulon Progo People's School Construction Accelerated, AHY Targets Completion in June 2026
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The construction of the Sekolah Rakyat in Kulon Progo is being accelerated to meet the target completion in the middle of this year. This project is part of the government’s efforts to expand educational access for low-income communities.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) is optimistic that the project can be completed on schedule.
In his statement in Jakarta on Saturday (25/4/2026), AHY said that acceleration is being achieved through the addition of manpower and the optimisation of heavy equipment. “I see that the spirit and hard work on the ground are very good. There are still challenges to overcome, but with additional workers, maximum utilisation of heavy equipment, and the professionalism of the Ministry of Public Works and all involved parties, I am optimistic that the completion target in June 2026 can be achieved,” said AHY.
He explained that the current construction progress has reached around 38 percent. There is a deviation of about five percent from the initial plan, so acceleration measures are needed.
“We need to push faster. The solution is to add workers and ensure that every stage of construction runs effectively. That way, construction progress can continue to improve,” said AHY.
Currently, around 840 workers have been deployed, and the number will continue to be increased. In addition, the use of heavy equipment is being maximised for structural work and land contour adjustments.
AHY emphasised that acceleration must not compromise the quality of the building. “The important thing is not just to finish quickly, but also for the results to be good, safe, and of high quality. That is why I see that the Ministry of Public Works and all parties are working seriously and professionally,” he said.
He added that this project also has an economic impact on the surrounding community through the absorption of labour and increased local business activity.
The Sekolah Rakyat Kulon Progo is being built on approximately 7.1 hectares of land with a total budget of around Rp214 billion. The facility covers primary, secondary, and high school levels, complete with dormitories and supporting facilities.
“With a total budget of around Rp214 billion, the Sekolah Rakyat Kulon Progo is targeted to accommodate 1,080 students,” said AHY.
He stated that all educational needs will be covered by the government, from school fees to learning materials. This programme is aimed at expanding educational access and supporting poverty alleviation efforts.
