Kudus Police stated that the perpetrator of the robbery at an elderly resident’s home in Loram Wetan Village, Jati District, Kudus Regency, was a neighbour.

“The suspect committed the crime to pay for university fees and other expenses,” said Kudus Police Chief AKBP Heru Dwi Purnomo, accompanied by Deputy Chief Kompol Rendi Johan Prasetyo and officers during a press conference at the Kudus Police Station on Friday.

The suspect, currently a university student in Semarang, acted out of economic motives to cover tuition and other costs, police added. Authorities are still investigating claims of online gambling addiction to verify their validity.

HF, 25, was arrested on the same day, shortly after the robbery occurred at 2:00 AM on Thursday, 28 May.

Police found a screwdriver left at the scene used to pry open the victim’s left window. Fingerprints of the suspect were also found on various items, including the victim’s helmet which he used to cover his face.

“After tracing the green screwdriver’s owner, the investigation pointed to the victim’s neighbour. Consequently, the suspect was apprehended on Thursday afternoon while active around his residence,” the officer stated.

Stolen gold jewellery—two rings, two bracelets, and a necklace—was hidden in the seat of a Honda Scoopy motorcycle, valued at IDR 62 million.

Prior to the robbery, the suspect had studied when the victim was alone at home. He also inflicted violence, causing bruising on the victim’s left temple.

He faces charges under Article 479 (2) paragraphs A and B of Law No. 1/2023 on the Criminal Code, with a potential 12-year prison sentence.
