Kubu Raya receives 2,444-unit allocation for Merah Putih home renovation programme

Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, has received an allocation of 2,444 units under the Bedah Rumah Merah Putih programme from the Ministry of Housing and Settlements, making it the largest recipient in the province. The figure marks a roughly 240 percent increase compared to the 2025 allocation of 967 units, a rise attributed to relaxed eligibility requirements for low-income beneficiaries. Nationally, the programme quota has surged from around 45,000 units in 2025 to 400,000 units in 2026, with the government targeting at least one million homes to be rehabilitated the following year. West Kalimantan as a whole has been allocated more than 16,000 units for houses deemed unfit for habitation. One key regulatory change under Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2026 is that applicants may now use a land tenure certificate issued by the village head, replacing the previous requirement for a formal land certificate. Kubu Raya Regent Sujiwo said the relaxed rules would help local authorities identify and propose more substandard homes, particularly those along riverbanks, which the district has been repairing independently through community self-help initiatives with a budget exceeding IDR 20 billion. He expressed hope that the central government allocation would be used optimally to improve housing quality and reduce the number of uninhabitable homes in the regency.
