Kuansing Regent Surrenders to KPK After Disappearing During Sting Operation

The whereabouts of Kuantan Singingi Regent Suhardiman Amby and Regional Secretary Zulkarnaen, who were being sought by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators, have finally been revealed. Both have now arrived at the KPK building in Jakarta. The confirmation was delivered directly by Suhardiman Amby’s legal counsel, Rizki Poliang, who accompanied the two officials to Jakarta. “That’s right, I am currently with the Regent. We have just arrived at the KPK on the second floor. I escorted and am accompanying him as his legal counsel,” Rizki Poliang said when confirmed on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Rizki stated he accompanied Suhardiman to Jakarta together with Zulkarnaen. They had just landed and went directly to the KPK building. “The Regional Secretary is also here, but I am only representing the Regent,” Rizki stressed. Suhardiman Amby and Zulkarnaen were previously sought by the KPK after both disappeared following a sting operation conducted by investigators in Kuantan Singingi and Jakarta the previous day. The KPK had earlier conducted the sting operation in Kuantan Singingi, Riau Province, related to alleged trading of influence within the Kuantan Singingi Regency Government. “This case is suspected to be related to alleged bribery for the sale and purchase of positions in Kuantan Singingi Regency,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK building in Jakarta on Tuesday (30/6/2026). A total of ten people were arrested in the sting operation in Kuansing. Budi stated that five people were subsequently brought to Jakarta for further examination at the KPK’s Merah Putih building. Budi added that the bribery in this sting operation was connected to the sale of the Regional Secretary position for Kuansing Regency. “This bribe was allegedly intended for the position of Regional Secretary of Kuansing Regency,” Budi stated. “Of the ten individuals, the KPK then brought five people to the KPK Merah Putih building for intensive examination,” Budi said. Budi explained that the five individuals consisted of three private sector parties, one civil servant from Kuansing Regency, and one other person who is a family member of a Kuansing Regency Government civil servant. In addition to securing ten people in this sting operation, the KPK also seized a number of pieces of evidence. The KPK team also confiscated a car during the sting operation in Kuansing. The vehicle is suspected to be linked to the bribery case within the Kuansing Regency Government. “The team also secured a number of pieces of evidence in this sting operation, namely electronic evidence in the form of financial transaction records,” Budi said at the KPK building in Jakarta. “Furthermore, the team also secured one four-wheeled vehicle suspected of being an instrument of bribery used by the parties involved,” Budi stated.
