Kuansing Regent and Secretary Officially Detained by KPK

The Regent of Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing), Suhardiman Amby, and the Regional Secretary of Kuansing Regency, Zulkarnain, have officially been detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after appearing before the public wearing orange vests. Suhardiman briefly smiled before speaking to the waiting journalists. “Please give your support and prayers,” Suhardiman said at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Wednesday. After that, both Suhardiman and Zulkarnain did not respond much to the journalists’ questions. Based on observations at the scene, there was one other suspect besides Suhardiman and Zulkarnain, but their identity has not yet been announced by the KPK. Previously, on Tuesday (30/6), the KPK confirmed it had conducted a sting operation in Kuansing and Jakarta, securing 10 individuals. This operation marks the 14th sting operation carried out by the KPK throughout 2026. Of the 10 people detained, five were taken to the KPK’s Red and White Building for intensive examination. They consisted of three private parties, a state civil servant from the Kuantan Singingi Regency Government, and Suhardiman’s wife, Suci Nitia Edward. The KPK had also previously requested that Suhardiman and Zulkarnain surrender themselves for examination. Both are suspected in connection with an alleged bribery case involving the buying and selling of the regional secretary position. In handling this case, the KPK also seized a car suspected of being used as an instrument of the bribe.
