Kuansing Police Destroy 24 Illegal Gold Mining Rafts in a Week
Kuantan Singingi Police remain committed to tackling illegal gold mining (PETI) activities within their jurisdiction. Over the past week, Kuansing Police destroyed 24 rafts used in illegal gold mining operations.
The crackdown was carried out at 10 locations across the districts of Singingi Hilir, Singingi, Kuantan Tengah, Kuantan Mudik and Kuantan Hilir, taking place from 17 to 23 July 2026.
“Over this one week, we have carried out enforcement at 10 crime scenes across several districts. Beyond law enforcement, we are also continuing to prioritise preventive measures through mitigation activities and public outreach,” said Kuansing Police Chief AKBP Hidayat Permana in a statement on Monday (27 July).
AKBP Hidayat said efforts to address illegal gold mining focus not only on enforcement but also on prevention through educating the public, so that they avoid involvement in illegal mining activities that damage the environment and endanger lives.
“We invite all members of the public to work together to protect the environment and refrain from illegal gold mining. Let us prevent environmental destruction and avoid loss of life caused by these illegal mining activities,” he added.
The police chief also stated that Kuantan Singingi Police have coordinated and collaborated with various community elements and stakeholders through the formation of the Illegal Gold Mining Enforcement Task Force in Kuantan Singingi Regency.
In addition, Kuansing Police continue to work in synergy with the Kuantan Singingi Regency Government and the Riau Provincial Government, with support from the Riau Regional Police Chief, to accelerate the establishment of a Community Mining Zone (WPR). According to him, the creation of the WPR, currently still under discussion at the Riau Provincial Government, is expected to serve as a long-term solution for regulating community mining activities legally.
“With a WPR that has a clear licensing basis, it is hoped that community mining activities in future can operate in accordance with laws and regulations, delivering benefits to the public without neglecting safety and environmental sustainability,” AKBP Hidayat concluded.
