JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI) led by Yorrys Raweyai has urged that President Prabowo Subianto’s speech on International Labour Day at Monas on Friday (1/5/2026) be implemented concretely so that its benefits can be felt by workers. KSPSI Deputy General Chairman Arnod Sihite assessed that several points conveyed by the government represent positive steps. In addition, KSPSI also appreciates the one million houses development programme for workers mentioned by Prabowo in his speech. Nevertheless, Arnod reminded that there are still access obstacles, particularly for the younger generation. In terms of regulations, KSPSI welcomes the enactment of the Domestic Workers Protection Law (UU PPRT). However, Arnod stressed the importance of accelerating derivative regulations so that implementation is not hindered. “The acceleration of Government Regulations as derivative rules must be carried out immediately so that their implementation is not obstructed,” he said. KSPSI also highlighted the plan to form a Layoff Mitigation Task Force (PHK). Arnod assessed that the task force must have a clear structure, main duties, and functions to effectively handle labour issues. He cited the case of layoffs at PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex), where workers’ severance is said not to have been paid despite a court ruling. Furthermore, KSPSI also assessed the need for wider socialisation of new regulations in the labour sector, including rules related to migrant workers and outsourcing. Overall, KSPSI views the President’s speech on May Day 2026 as a positive initial step.
