JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Confederation of All-Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI) led by Yorrys Raweyai has chosen to commemorate International Labour Day 2026 in a simple manner without mobilising mass actions.

KSPSI Deputy General Chairman Arnod Sihite stated that this year’s May Day momentum is directed as a space to promote policies that are more favourable to workers.

“We want May Day to be more than just ceremonial or action, but a momentum to convey ideas and real solutions,” said Arnod in his statement received by Kompas.com on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

The first issue is the resolution of the PT Sritex case. KSPSI urges the government to immediately intervene to ensure severance payments for workers affected by layoffs (PHK).

“The Sritex case must receive serious attention. The government must not remain silent; it must ensure workers’ rights are paid. This is also part of the message we convey during May Day,” he said.

Arnod emphasised that the process must be completed no later than this year.

“Do not let it drag on. This year it must be finalised so that workers have clear legal certainty,” he explained.

Thirdly, KSPSI highlights the absence of government regulations regarding Recipients of Contribution Assistance (PBI) for employment social security as mandated by Law Number 40 of 2004 on the National Social Security System.

According to Arnod, these regulations are crucial to guarantee protection for poor and vulnerable communities.

He noted that currently, the active participants in employment social security number around 47 million people, while the potential PBI recipients are estimated at 48 million people.

“The state must be present to ensure they receive social security,” said Arnod.

This is deemed important to ensure effective protection for domestic workers.
