Jombang (ANTARA) – Confederation of All-Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) president Andi Gani Nena Wea praised the National Police’s swift move to establish Labour Desks down to police-resort level, saying they can accelerate the resolution of industrial relations disputes, including long-stalled cases.

Andi Gani said several labour-related issues that had previously remained unresolved could be dealt with through the Labour Desk in seven to eight days.

“Labour cases that had been stalled for as long as five to six years can be resolved at the Labour Desk in just seven to eight days,” he said at the inauguration of the National Police Labour Desk in Jombang, East Java, on Saturday.

The National Police chief’s labour affairs adviser also praised National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto for expediting the establishment of the service.

He said preparations for the Labour Desk’s inauguration were completed within eight days of discussions with the police chief.

He hoped the presence of Labour Desks at police-resort level would give workers wider access to report suspected violations of their labour rights.

The service is expected to enable workers to lodge complaints when their rights are not upheld in accordance with applicable regulations.

Andi Gani added that strengthening labour services was an important part of maintaining healthy industrial relations.

He hoped cooperation between the National Police and labour organisations would continue under the leadership of National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto.

He stressed that support for the Labour Desk formed part of the labour organisations’ commitment to promoting the protection of workers’ rights and faster resolution of industrial relations issues.

Those attending the event included National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, hundreds of workers and other guests.

The event began with a ceremony, followed by the inauguration of the Labour Desk at Jombang Police Resort. The police chief also inspected the building being used for the Labour Desk at Jombang Police Resort.
