KSPSI Affirms May Day Celebration at Monas Does Not Use State Budget Funds
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The president of the All-Indonesian Labour Confederation (KSPSI), who is also the May Day organising committee, Andi Gani Nena Wea, stated that the May Day commemoration at Monas in Central Jakarta on Friday (1/5/2026) will not use funds from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).
According to Andi, although it will be attended by hundreds of participants, no state funds will be used for the international labour day commemoration.
“I affirm that the costs for this year’s May Day do not use APBN from any ministry. Not a single penny of state funds is being used; I know this precisely,” said Andi Gani during a press conference in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
The participants will be given T-shirts to wear during May Day, specially designed by President Prabowo Subianto.
In addition, umbrellas will be provided to the May Day participants.
“Both the T-shirts and umbrellas from the President, the stage setup, refreshments—all of that comes from kind-hearted people who care about the labour movement,” said Andi Gani.
“I assure you, zero APBN funds are being used for tomorrow’s May Day event,” he stressed.
When asked further about the funding sources for the May Day organisation, Andi Gani stated that he could not specify the sources.
However, he acknowledged that, in total, the budget for the May Day implementation is very substantial.
“The point is, this event is made possible thanks to the kind hands of people who care about the labour movement. And I assure you, there are no oligarchs involved,” he explained.
“No major companies are covering the costs of May Day. I guarantee that there will be no story later after May Day about some conglomerate company paying; I assure you, there is none,” said Andi Gani.
He added that the 2026 May Day commemoration adopts the theme ‘Unbounded Solidarity, Without Barriers, Without Differences, and Struggling Together for Just Welfare of Indonesian Workers.’
The event will be attended by labour representatives from all over Indonesia.
