The president of the National Workers’ Union Confederation (KSPN), Ristadi, has urged students planning to hold demonstrations on 28 October 2026 to express their views in an orderly and peaceful manner. He called on all student groups to use the Youth Pledge Day commemoration to strengthen the spirit of national unity.

“Freedom of expression in public is a right of citizens that must be respected and protected. It is a means of conveying aspirations as well as exercising social oversight of the administration of the state,” Ristadi said in a statement on Tuesday (27 October 2026).

He said demonstrations must prioritise order, peace and responsibility in presenting demands. Aspirations expressed appropriately, he added, would help ensure the message was conveyed.

“However, demonstrations must still prioritise order, peace and responsibility in presenting demands, so that a good objective is pursued through good means, as KSPN has also done in its demonstrations,” he said.

Ristadi also noted that 28 October holds important historical significance for Indonesia. He said the spirit of unity must continue to be upheld and put into practice by the younger generation.

“28 October is a historic moment when Indonesian youth resolved to build national unity through the Youth Pledge. This spirit must be safeguarded by the younger generation, including students, to help realise a better Indonesia,” he said.
