KSPI to Hold May Day Actions in 38 Provinces and 350 Districts/Cities
JAKARTA - In addition to centring the International Labour Day (May Day) celebrations in 2026 at the National Monument (Monas) area in Jakarta, the Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPI) will also hold simultaneous actions in various regions across Indonesia.
KSPI President and Labour Party figure Said Iqbal stated that this year’s May Day celebrations will span 38 provinces and more than 350 districts/cities.
“Besides the May Day celebration at Monas, KSPI, supported by the Labour Party, will also celebrate May Day in major cities across 38 provinces and more than 350 districts/cities,” said Said during an online press conference on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
In addition, actions will be held in Banjarmasin, Samarinda, and Pontianak, as well as in eastern Indonesia regions such as Makassar, Manado, Gorontalo, Kendari, Ambon, Ternate, Mataram, and Kupang.
Not only that, the celebrations will also reach several areas in Papua, including Mimika, Jayapura, Merauke, Sorong, and Manokwari.
“KSPI believes that International Labour Day celebrations should not merely be ceremonial or festive events, but worldwide, including in Indonesia, KSPI opines that May Day celebrations are the right time to convey workers’ issues or aspirations in a country,” Said explained.
KSPI, together with the Labour Party, decided to hold the events at those locations after meeting the President on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
In that meeting, KSPI conveyed 11 labour issues or demands to the government.
Several crucial issues were said to have received responses from the President.
Furthermore, around 50,000 KSPI member workers are confirmed to attend directly at Monas, with the total participants estimated to reach hundreds of thousands from various labour unions.
KSPI reminds all workers participating in the May Day celebrations, both in Jakarta and in the regions, to maintain order and avoid anarchic actions.
Said emphasised that the actions must be carried out peacefully and respect broader public interests.
“I repeat once again, May Day actions or celebrations throughout Indonesia must be peaceful, orderly, anti-violence, and must not be anarchic; respect the interests of other people,” he concluded.
