KSPI to Celebrate May Day 2026 with Prabowo at Monas Instead of DPR
The Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPI), supported by the Labour Party, has decided to hold celebrations for International Labour Day (May Day) on Friday, 1 May 2026, at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta, together with President Prabowo Subianto.
KSPI President and Labour Party figure Said Iqbal explained that the May Day action was originally planned to take place in front of the DPR building and continue to the Indonesia Arena area.
“There is certainly a reason why KSPI is moving the plan for May Day on 1 May 2026, which was supposed to be in front of the DPR RI building and then proceed to the Indonesia Arena area, to Monas in Jakarta,” said Said during an online press conference on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.
Said Iqbal stated that the meeting with President Prabowo took place on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, lasting around one and a half hours.
“After the Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPI) met with Mr President Prabowo Subianto yesterday on Tuesday to discuss labour issues as well as May Day and Indonesia’s future, from that discussion which lasted almost one and a half hours, KSPI, supported by the Labour Party, has decided to hold May Day celebrations together with Mr President Prabowo Subianto and other labour union friends at Monas,” he explained.
The request was granted, allowing the meeting to proceed.
In that meeting, KSPI conveyed 11 issues or hopes of Indonesian workers to the government.
According to Said, May Day is not merely a ceremonial celebration, but a momentum to voice workers’ demands and aspirations.
Additionally, several of the 11 issues presented were said to have received direct responses from President Prabowo.
This is seen as a positive development for the workers’ struggle.
“From the 11 issues or 11 hopes brought by KSPI, supported by the Labour Party, several of which are crucial and very important for Indonesian workers, were answered and affirmed by Mr President Prabowo Subianto,” he revealed.
The participants will come from various regions, such as Greater Jakarta, Karawang, Purwakarta, Subang, Greater Bandung, and Greater Cirebon.
