KSPI Calls for Peaceful Demonstrations Without Violence
The Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI) has urged students and workers planning to demonstrate in Jakarta tomorrow to express their views peacefully and without violence.
“KSPI urges workers and demonstration participants on 28 October 2026 to conduct their actions peacefully, without violence or unrest, in accordance with the Constitution and applicable regulations,” KSPI president Said Iqbal told reporters on Tuesday (27 October 2026).
Said said the confederation supported the demonstration planned for the following day, adding that democracy must operate within the rules.
“The National Executive Council of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation supports healthy democracy based on the Constitution and free from violence,” he said.
Separately, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police urged the public to protect public facilities during demonstrations scheduled to take place in Jakarta the following day. It said these facilities were important for supporting people’s mobility.
“Public facilities are provided to meet the needs of the community. Protecting them is everyone’s responsibility so that all people can continue to benefit from them,” Jakarta Metropolitan Police public relations chief Budi Hermanto said on Tuesday (27 October).
Budi said that if public facilities did not function properly, the effects would be widespread, including delays to people’s journeys, interruptions to services and repairs that would take time and money.
“Protecting public facilities is not merely about their physical condition; it is also an effort to safeguard the needs of the community,” he added.
