KSPI Awaits Clarity on Layoff Task Force, Rejects Inclusion of Workers' Welfare Issues
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPI) has stated that it is still awaiting the government’s plans for establishing the Layoff Task Force (Satgas PHK), particularly following proposals to include workers’ welfare issues.
KSPI President and Labour Party leader Said Iqbal assessed that adding welfare concerns to the Layoff Task Force could render the institution’s function unclear.
“If it is combined with the Layoff Task Force and Workers’ Welfare, KSPI rejects it. Because it becomes absurd and does not align with the expectations conveyed by the President,” Iqbal said during a press conference via Zoom on Monday (4/5/2026).
From the outset, KSPI has proposed the Layoff Task Force to accelerate the handling of potential employment terminations, particularly by streamlining bureaucratic stages.
Based on this proposal, the Task Force would serve as a direct liaison between companies and the government before layoffs occur, while seeking solutions to avoid or minimise job cuts.
Additionally, the Task Force is expected to compile data on workers affected by layoffs and connect them with new job opportunities available in various regions.
Thus, expanding the Task Force’s functions to include “workers’ welfare” makes its definition unclear and potentially extends to various other issues beyond the main focus.
He noted that workers’ welfare issues, such as wages, social security, and labour protection, already have their own mechanisms and forums within labour regulations, making it inappropriate to include them in the Layoff Task Force.
He revealed that KSPI is still questioning the clarity and operational mechanisms of the Layoff Task Force, which have yet to be explained in detail by the government.
“What is its function, what are its duties, what is the mechanism. If welfare is added, we reject it,” he added.
